Modern Rehab in East Kensington
Yes, that East Kensington…
A lovely not-so-little home in the proverbial up-and-coming Philly ‘hood… Local design pioneers such as these are in high demand and promise to be the rule rather than the exception in the years ahead. Good stuff for you and me. ;)
From 100K House:
The story behind the rehab is actually pretty interesting. Todd, his girlfriend (now wife) and another friend who were all Master of Architecture majors at University of Pensylvania were faced with the task to find internships for the summer about two years ago. Together they came up with the idea to buy, design and rehab a house in Philly for their summer experience rather than going the traditional internship route. They dove in and two years later are putting the finishing touches on their modern rehab…
The finished product is impressive and boast the following features:
* Cor-Ten steel screen facade that provides privacy, security and looks badass
* Interior courtyard separating public space from private space in the home
* 600 sf extensive green roof
* 200 sf rooftop patio with recycled tire pavers
* Bamboo flooring throughout
* On-demand electric water heater
* 3 beds + 2 baths with 10-12 ft ceilings
* Exposed brick interior
* modern finishes throughout
Informal house tour slated for 18 June 2008 @ 6PM. Please RSVP to glv (at) lamidesign.com to attend.

Beauty, isn’t it?
Thanks for linking to our hood Kevin. In case you didn’t get the memo, East Kenzo is the new neighborhood for the design conscious in Philly. :)
A house tour has been organized by a small group of modern house enthusiasts – Delaware Valley Modernists, or DelValMod and at times DVM. If you are interested in seeing the house the Design/Builders have been kind enough to open the house for an evening house tour on 18Jun08.

I’ve just returned from the open house and it was a great success. At least 30 people there at the peak, and more total with the comings and goings. Much thanks to Todd and Amy for opening the house to everyone, and thanks to everybody who turned out.
