Beneath the Kimmel Center’s illuminated glass canopy lies a multitude of issues and quakes relative to architecture, design, civic engagement and urban planning. Ah, but it makes for such a pretty picture, don’t you think?
A not-so-brief timeline in URL’s:
Rafael Vinoly Architects – a plentiful portfolio of mostly glass domes and exposed structural framing
The Kimmel Center – official site with news, events and of course not a word of anything controversial
New York Observer article – short n sweet n filled with gossip
PlanPhilly – the KC Board’s Sunshine-y plan
Inga Saffron & Chris Satullo via the Inquirer – musings and such on the socio-architectural ins and outs of the space
Phillyblog spinoff – chock full of sometimes-ravenous opinions, as usual
Special thanks to JMGPhoto for capturing a lovely shot of the Center’s back-end. How appropos.
Happy trails!

There will actually be a follow up Civic Engagement presentation on April 1st in the evening (check the Planphilly website for more details) of the work that the students at U. Penn and UArts are proposing for the redesign of the public spaces.
I used to live right in back of this place. It was awesome. *sigh*
